While ITIL 4 retains many of the core elements of ITIL v3, and much of the existing guidance will be recognizable in parts of ITIL 4, there are no direct like-for-like modules between the two certification schemes.
Unless you are eligible to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module, you will always have to start with ITIL 4 Foundation first.
AXELOS offers an ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module. This module covers the core elements from the ITIL Managing Professional stream. It has a mandatory training element and exam, enabling ITIL v3 candidates who are ITIL Experts or who have achieved 17 credits from across the ITIL v3 scheme to transition their existing designations into the ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) designation.
ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module is available since October 3, 2019.
After achieving the ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) designation, if learners are interested in pursuing the ITIL Strategic Leader stream, they would only need to complete the ITIL Leader Digital & IT Strategy module.
To maintain a consistent approach and recognize previous investment learners have made into ITIL V3, the same amount of credits will be required for those wishing to transition from V3 to ITIL V4 via the ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module.
Having gained the required credits from ITIL V3, learners will be able to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module without needing to take the MALC exam.
IF learners would like to continue their ITIL journey to a higher level, they can utilize the ITIL V3 path to gain 17 credits.
Utilizing the Fast Track to ITIL V4 is an option towards obtaining the 17 credits in ITIL V3. Then learners can take advantage of the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module.
